Privacy Policy
Effective Date: 05/05/2025
Have any questions about this policy?
This Privacy Policy explains how I collect, use, and protect your information when you visit my website, joshupson.com.
1. Information I Collect
I collect minimal, anonymized information to improve and secure this site. Specifically:
a. Analytics (Umami Cloud)
I use Umami Cloud, a privacy-first web analytics service provided by Umami Software, Inc. Umami:
- Does not use cookies
- Does not collect personally identifiable information
- Does not track users across websites
It collects only anonymized, aggregated data such as:
- Pages visited
- Referring sites
- Browser and device types
- Operating system
- Country-level location (based on anonymized IP)
This data helps me understand how the site is used and improve it accordingly.
You can read Umami’s privacy policy at: https://umami.is/privacy
b. Bot Protection (Cloudflare Turnstile)
I use Cloudflare Turnstile, an anti-bot tool that protects forms and interactive features. Turnstile does not use tracking cookies.
However, it may use temporary, essential browser storage mechanisms (such as session tokens or ephemeral storage) to determine whether a user is real or automated. These mechanisms:
- Are strictly necessary for site security
- Do not track users or persist unnecessarily
- Are not optional, as they are critical to the safe operation of the site
Because these mechanisms are essential and non-tracking, I do not display a cookie consent banner.
2. How I Use the Information
I use the collected information only to:
- Ensure the site works securely and as intended
- Understand general usage trends through aggregated analytics
I do not use this information for advertising or share it with third parties for marketing.
3. Third-Party Services
This site uses the following services:
- Umami Cloud – provided by Umami Software, Inc. (https://umami.is)
- Cloudflare Turnstile – provided by Cloudflare, Inc. (https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/)
Both services are privacy-conscious and comply with applicable data protection laws.
4. Your Rights
If you're in a jurisdiction like the EU or UK, you may have rights related to your personal data, such as:
- The right to access, correct, or delete any personal data (though I don’t collect any)
- The right to object to or restrict certain types of processing
- The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
Since I don’t collect personal data, most of these rights may not be applicable in practice.
